Hansika Motwani Gets Divorced Refuses Alimony Family Court

Hansika Motwani And Sohael Khaturiya Divorced After 3 Years: Bandra Family Court, Lawyer Says Actor Refuses Alimony

Did Hansika Motwani walk away from her marriage without asking for a single rupee in alimony? The Bandra Family Court has now granted divorce, but what exactly happened between the actor and businessman Sohael Khaturiya?

MAHARASHTRAActor Hansika Motwani and businessman Sohael Khaturiya have officially divorced after three years of marriage. The divorce was granted by a family court in Bandra, Mumbai. Hansika’s lawyer, Adnan Shaikh, confirmed the development, bringing an end to months of speculation about their relationship.

Rumours about their separation first started circulating in August last year when reports claimed that the couple had been living separately for some time. Neither Hansika nor Sohael had publicly addressed the speculation then, but the legal proceedings have now formally ended their marriage.

Hansika Motwani, known for films like Aap Kaa SurroorOru Kal Oru Kannadi, and My Name Is Shruthi, married Sohael Khaturiya on December 4, 2022. The wedding took place in a grand ceremony at Mundota Fort and Palace in Jaipur and attracted widespread media attention due to its lavish celebrations.

Confirming the court’s decision, Hansika’s lawyer stated:

“Our client, Hansika Motwani, has been granted a decree of divorce by the Hon’ble Family Court Bandra. The divorce was granted by mutual consent after both parties acknowledged that the marriage had irretrievably broken down.”

The lawyer further explained that the separation process began when Hansika approached her husband seeking a peaceful resolution to the situation.

According to the legal statement:

“Our client had initially approached her now former husband seeking an amicable separation, which ultimately culminated in the present decree. The respondent filed his affidavit before the court today confirming his consent to the dissolution of the marriage.”

In many high-profile matrimonial disputes, financial claims often become a central issue. However, the legal team clarified that no such demand was made in this case.

The lawyer said:

“It is pertinent to clarify that our client has made no claims whatsoever for alimony or maintenance, as her sole intention was to bring a dignified and peaceful closure to the marriage. The reasons for the breakdown of the relationship were placed before the Hon’ble Court in the petition. Our client now wishes to move forward with her life and professional commitments.”

Interestingly, public attention towards the couple’s relationship increased when Hansika removed several wedding photographs from her Instagram account last year. This move triggered widespread speculation that the marriage was facing difficulties, though the actor did not comment on the rumours at that time.

Before their marriage, Sohael Khaturiya had proposed to Hansika in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris in November 2022. The proposal quickly went viral on social media after Hansika shared the pictures with the caption “Now and Forever“.

With the divorce now officially granted by the Bandra Family Court, the couple has chosen to part ways through mutual consent. While the legal proceedings have ended quietly without financial disputes, the case again highlights how even high-profile marriages can break down within a short time, often leaving one party to move on silently after the legal closure.

Explanatory Table of Laws and Legal Provisions

Law / Section Legal Provision Explanation
Section 13B, Hindu Marriage Act, 1955 Divorce by Mutual Consent Allows both spouses to jointly seek divorce when they agree that the marriage has broken down and they cannot live together. The court grants divorce after verifying consent and settlement between parties.
Family Courts Act, 1984 Jurisdiction of Family Courts Empowers Family Courts to adjudicate matrimonial disputes such as divorce, maintenance, custody, and related family matters.
Maintenance / Alimony Principles (Hindu Marriage Act Sections 24 & 25) Interim and Permanent Maintenance These provisions allow a spouse to seek financial support during or after divorce proceedings. In this case, the actor reportedly chose not to claim any alimony or maintenance.

Key Takeaways

  • Divorce by mutual consent again shows how quickly modern marriages collapse, often leaving men emotionally and financially exposed.
  • The fact that no alimony was claimed in this case highlights how unusual it is in India, where men are routinely dragged into long maintenance battles.
  • Under current matrimonial laws, men often face legal and financial pressure during divorce, even when relationships fail mutually.
  • This case quietly exposes the imbalance in the system where men usually carry the burden of litigation, settlements, and social blame.
  • When a separation happens without financial extraction, it ironically becomes “news” — showing how normalised monetary demands from men have become in matrimonial disputes.
