Wife Killed Sleeping Husband, Strangled Him With Pillow And Mobile Charger Cord: Jajpur Court Sentences Her To Life Imprisonment

A Jajpur court in Odisha sentenced Mamata Kuanr to life imprisonment for murdering her husband, Atal Kuanr, following a family dispute in 2021. According to the prosecution, she strangled him while he was asleep using a pillow and mobile charger cord. The court also imposed a ₹1 lakh fine, with an additional year of imprisonment in case of default. Two other accused in the case were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.

Delhi Court Refuses To Increase Wife’s Maintenance says, “Husband Cannot Be Ordered To Pay Beyond His Means”

A Delhi Sessions Court refused to enhance a wife’s interim maintenance and upheld an award of ₹1,840 per month under the Domestic Violence Act. Although the court acknowledged that the amount was insufficient for her basic needs in Delhi, it held that maintenance must be based on the husband’s proved or reasonably presumed income. The wife alleged that he owned a medical store and had rental income, but no supporting documents were produced. The court therefore upheld the assessment based on applicable minimum wages and observed that a husband from poor financial circumstances cannot be ordered to pay beyond his means.

Police are treating the accusations as allegations and are investigating both sides, as the woman has also filed a counter-complaint against the medical store owner alleging that he made an obscene offer to her. No arrest had been made at the time of the report.
