The matter was listed on 6 November 2026 before a three-judge Bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant, Justice Joymalya Bagchi and Justice V. Mohana. Initially reported as a suspected suicide, the Delhi judge's death has now come under the Supreme Court's judicial scrutiny.

According to media reports, Aman Kumar Sharma was found hanging inside the bathroom of his residence. His family later raised serious allegations of matrimonial harassment and domestic disputes involving his wife, Swati, a judicial officer, and his sister-in-law, Nidhi Malik, an IAS officer.

A relative claimed that Sharma had contacted his father the night before his death and expressed serious distress over his personal circumstances.

The relative alleged that Sharma had been facing harassment for nearly two months, which had caused him considerable mental distress. His family also alleged that his sister-in-law interfered in his married life, leading to further matrimonial disputes.

According to the family's account, tensions increased after Sharma's father arrived in Delhi from Alwar. On the morning of the incident, Sharma and his wife allegedly argued. His father reportedly heard him crying before everything became silent.

When Sharma could not be found, his mobile phone was heard ringing inside the locked bathroom. After repeated attempts to open the door failed, a security guard entered through a window and found the judicial officer hanging.

Following the incident, Delhi Police initiated inquest proceedings, recorded statements and examined the family's allegations. During the initial investigation, police stated that no foul play had been established and that all possible angles were being investigated.

Aman Kumar Sharma joined the Delhi Judicial Service on 19 June 2021, after completing his law degree from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, in 2018.

He served as a Judicial Magistrate First Class and Civil Judge, dealing with criminal and civil cases. Since October 2025, he had been working as Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), North-East District, Karkardooma Courts, Delhi.

The Supreme Court's suo motu intervention has brought renewed attention to the suspicious death of the Delhi judge, particularly the allegations of matrimonial harassment, domestic disputes and mental distress raised by his family.

However, the allegations against Sharma's wife and sister-in-law remain unproven, and the Supreme Court's suo motu proceedings do not establish their criminal responsibility.

The Supreme Court's further proceedings will determine the scope of judicial examination into Aman Kumar Sharma's death.
