UTTAR PRADESH: A Meerut Sessions Court has sentenced Ravita Kashyap and her lover Amardeep to death for the brutal murder of Ravita's husband, Amit Kashyap, in a case where the convicts attempted to disguise the killing as a snakebite death.

Additional District and Sessions Judge-12 Jaiveer Singh Nagar had convicted both accused on October 7, 2026, and awarded them the death penalty on October 16, 2026. Both convicts appeared before the court through video conferencing from jail.

The case dates back to April 2025, when Amit Kashyap, a resident of Akbarpur Sadat village in Meerut, was found dead inside his house. A live snake was discovered near his body, and his wife Ravita initially claimed that he had died from a snakebite.

However, the postmortem report exposed the murder conspiracy. Medical examination established that Amit had died from suffocation caused by pressure on his neck, mouth and nose, rather than snake venom.

According to the prosecution, Ravita was having an extramarital affair with Amardeep, who knew Amit and frequently visited their house. After Amit discovered their relationship, Ravita and Amardeep conspired to eliminate him.

The investigation revealed that Amit was murdered while sleeping. To conceal the crime, the accused allegedly placed a live snake near his body to make his death appear accidental.

Police also investigated the purchase of a snake for โ‚น1,000 from a snake charmer, who subsequently became a prosecution witness.

Phone call records further exposed the conspiracy, with reports indicating that Ravita and Amardeep had communicated more than 50 times around the time of Amit's murder.

Amit's brother lodged a police complaint, following which investigators examined the postmortem findings, call records, witness statements and other evidence.

The prosecution examined approximately 12 witnesses, including medical and other material witnesses. Based on the evidence, the court found Ravita and Amardeep guilty of murder and criminal conspiracy.

The Meerut ADJ-12 Court awarded the death sentence to both convicts on October 16, 2026, bringing a major development in the case of a husband whose murder was initially presented as an accidental snakebite death.
