UTTAR PRADESH: A Meerut Court has convicted wife Ravita and her lover Amardeep for the murder of her husband, Amit Kashyap, who was found dead at his home with a snake placed on his bed to make his death appear to be caused by a snakebite.

The Additional District Judge delivered the verdict on October 7, 2026, after examining the prosecution evidence and witness statements. The Court will decide the punishment on October 16, 2026.

Amit Kashyap, a resident of Akbarpur Sadat village in Meerut, was found dead at his house on April 17, 2025. Amardeep worked with Amit in tile and stone installation and regularly visited his home. During these visits, he developed a relationship with Amit's wife, Ravita.

According to the prosecution, when Amit came to know about their relationship, Ravita and Amardeep planned to eliminate him. They allegedly purchased a snake from a snake charmer in the Mawana area for ₹1,000.

On the night of the incident, after Amit fell asleep, Ravita called Amardeep to the house. The two strangled Amit and placed the snake on his bed to make the death look like an accidental snakebite.

The next morning, Amit's family found him dead with apparent snakebite marks on his body. Believing that a snake had bitten him, the family called a snake charmer, who caught and removed the snake.

However, the postmortem report received five days later established suffocation as the cause of death, not snake venom. The investigation also revealed that the snake was neither venomous nor had fangs, according to the prosecution.

Police subsequently questioned Ravita and Amardeep. According to the report, both allegedly admitted their involvement during questioning.

Before being sent to jail, Ravita had alleged that Amit regularly subjected her to physical violence and threatened to force her into prostitution. These were her allegations and were not established as findings in the reported verdict.

Amardeep also claimed that he had a dispute with Amit over ₹3,500 and that Amit continued threatening him even after the matter was settled. He claimed that he planned the killing because he feared for his life.

The trial concluded 538 days after the incident, following 16 hearings and the examination of more than 12 witnesses.

Ravita has remained in Meerut jail since the incident, while Amardeep is currently out on bail. After considering the evidence, the Court held both Ravita and Her Lover, Amardeep, guilty of jointly murdering Amit Kashyap. The Court will pronounce the sentence on October 16, 2026
