BREAKING | Wife Murdered Husband On Karwa Chauth: Bihar Court Sentences Her To Life Imprisonment
BIHAR: A Rohtas court has sentenced Poonam Kumari to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000 for murdering her husband, Aman Kumar, on Karwa Chauth in 2022.
Third District Judge Jeevan Lal delivered the judgment on Thursday in Sasaram, Bihar. The court found Poonam guilty of murdering her husband after he was allegedly brought home from Haryana on the pretext of celebrating Karwa Chauth.
Aman Kumar worked at a private firm in Haryana. According to the prosecution, his wife Poonam asked him to return to their village, Naraina, in Rohtas district, for the festival. Instead, the visit ended in his murder on October 13, 2022.
The prosecution alleged that Poonam had planned the crime with Kamlesh Kumar, described as her alleged lover. She reportedly called Kamlesh to her house and arranged sleeping pills.
Aman was given sleeping pills and became unconscious. He was then strangled to death. His body was allegedly taken approximately 800 metres away from Naraina village and dumped beside the Shivsagar–Chenari highway to conceal evidence of the crime.
The murder FIR was registered at Chenari Police Station following a complaint by Aman's father, Murli Manohar Singh, a resident of Naraina village.
During the trial, the prosecution examined nine witnesses to establish its case. Additional Public Prosecutor Vidyasagar Rai presented the prosecution's account of the incident.
While Poonam was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment, the court acquitted Kamlesh Kumar due to insufficient evidence. His alleged involvement was not proved to the standard required for criminal conviction.
Following the sentencing, Aman's family expressed satisfaction with the court's decision.
