Blue Drum Murder Case: Meerut Court Convicts Wife Muskan & Lover For Killing Husband Saurabh Rajput
MEERUT: A Meerut District Court has convicted Muskan Rastogi and Sahil Shukla in the Saurabh Rajput blue drum murder case. Saurabh Rajput, a former Merchant Navy officer, was Muskan's husband.
District and Sessions Judge Arvind Kumar Mishra pronounced the verdict on 30 September 2026, after a trial lasting around 13 months and approximately 126 hearings. The prosecution examined 22 witnesses and relied on medical, forensic, scientific and other circumstantial evidence.
The court found Muskan and Sahil guilty in connection with Saurabh Rajput's murder, criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence. The court reserved the order on the quantum of sentence. The prosecution has sought stringent punishment.
The case relates to Saurabh's killing in Meerut in March 2025. According to the prosecution case, Muskan sedated her husband, and Sahil later joined her. Saurabh was killed and his body was dismembered. His remains were then concealed inside a blue plastic drum and sealed with cement.
Police subsequently filed an approximately 1,000-page chargesheet against Muskan and Sahil. The chargesheet cited Section 103(1) BNS, which deals with punishment for murder, and Section 238 BNS, which deals with causing disappearance of evidence or giving false information to screen an offender.
During the trial, the defence stressed that there was no eyewitness to the murder and argued that the accused had been falsely implicated due to a property dispute. The prosecution, however, relied heavily on the chain of circumstances along with medical and forensic evidence.
The post-mortem doctor was also examined. According to the prosecution, the medical findings showed that Saurabh died due to excessive blood loss and shock.
On the day of the verdict, Muskan and Sahil appeared through video conferencing from Meerut District Jail. When the judge asked Muskan what she felt on the day of the decision, she replied:
“We have done what we had to do.”
When questioned further, she said:
“I have nothing to say.”
The prosecution informed the media after the verdict:
“The court has now held both offenders guilty of murdering Saurabh Rajput and attempting to conceal evidence related to the crime—specifically, trying to hide both the body in a blue drum and the murder weapon. Both individuals have been convicted of this offence.”
For Saurabh's family, the conviction came after more than a year of court proceedings. His mother, Renu Rajput, asked after the verdict:
“The court has held Muskaan guilty, but I have one question for her — why did she kill my son? If she was in court, I would have asked her this publicly.”
She also recalled the history of the marriage:
“Muskaan had eloped with my son, saying she wanted to live with him. We got them married… Later, when differences arose between them, a divorce was filed and was pending in court… she could have simply separated from Saurabh.”
