A 27-year-old husband was found dead on his bed with a mark on his neck.
Now, a Tripura court has sentenced his wife to life imprisonment in the 2023 murder case.
DHALAI: A court in Tripura’s Dhalai district has sentenced 26-year-old Jhuma Marar to life imprisonment for murdering her husband, Mohan Marar, in 2023.
The judgment was passed by the Court of the Additional District Judge at Kamalpur on Friday. Jhuma Marar, a resident of Chulubari’s Jagannath Gour Para under Kamalpur Police Station, was convicted under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
The court sentenced her to rigorous imprisonment for life. It also imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000. If she fails to pay the fine, she will have to undergo another two months of simple imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the case began after a complaint was filed by Mahesh Marar, the father of the deceased, on May 28, 2023. He told police that his son Mohan Marar, aged 27, was found dead on his bed inside their house at Chulubari’s Jagannath Gour Para.
The father also told police that a blackish mark was visible on Mohan’s neck. He suspected that his daughter-in-law had strangled his son to death.
After this complaint, Kamalpur Police registered a murder case under Section 302 of the IPC and started the investigation.
During the investigation, police collected material against Jhuma Marar. Later, Sub-Inspector Debabrata Datta of Kamalpur Police Station filed the charge sheet against her on November 30, 2023.
During the trial, the prosecution placed evidence before the court to show the role of the accused in the crime. The court examined the evidence and heard arguments from both sides.
After considering the material on record, the court found Jhuma Marar guilty of murdering her husband.
The conviction and sentence were pronounced on June 19, 2026.
This case is not just about a murder conviction. It is also about a young husband who lost his life inside his own home, and a father who had to approach police after seeing his son dead under suspicious circumstances. The court’s decision shows that when evidence proves the crime, even the closest family relationship cannot become a shield against punishment.

- A husband’s life also matters. Mohan Marar was not just a case file; he was a son, a husband, and a man who died inside his own house.
- Marriage cannot become a cover for crime. When a wife murders her husband, society must stop treating male victims as less important.
- The father’s complaint became crucial. If Mahesh Marar had stayed silent, the truth could have been buried with his son.
- Evidence matters more than drama. The court convicted Jhuma Marar only after examining the material placed during trial.
- Men need protection too. This case is a reminder that domestic violence and spousal crimes are not one-way streets.
