Acid Attack On Sleeping Husband Leaves Man Blind Forever: UP Court Awards Life Imprisonment To Wife Allegedly Involved In Extramarital Affair
UTTAR PRADESH: In a judgment delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge Gopal Ji of the Fast Track Court at Chandausi, Sambhal, a woman was sentenced to life imprisonment for throwing acid on her husband and causing permanent blindness.
The court awarded life imprisonment to Kahkansha, and also imposed a fine of Rs 1.75 lakh. The sentence was pronounced on June 1, 2026, after the court had convicted her on May 27, 2026.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on March 7, 2025, in the Nakhasa area of Sambhal district. The victim, Muzaffar, was sleeping at his home when his wife allegedly poured acid on him. It was alleged that the attack was carried out with the intention of killing him.
The prosecution further stated that after the first attack, Muzaffar tried to save himself and escape. However, Kahkansha allegedly threw acid on him again. The attack caused severe injuries to his face and permanently damaged both his eyes, leaving him blind for life.
Special Public Prosecutor Narendra Kumar Yadav informed the court that the couple had frequent disputes. He stated that the accused wanted a divorce and was allegedly involved in an extramarital relationship. The couple has two children.
A criminal case was registered at Nakhasa Police Station on March 20, 2025, under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During the trial, the prosecution presented evidence and witnesses to support the allegations.
After examining the evidence and the seriousness of the offence, the court found the accused guilty. While awarding the sentence, the court took note of the permanent injuries suffered by the victim and the grave nature of the attack.
Considering the severity of the crime, the Fast Track Court sentenced Kahkansha to life imprisonment and directed her to pay a fine of Rs 1.75 lakh. The judgment brings an end to a case that shocked the local community due to the brutal nature of the attack and the lifelong consequences suffered by the victim.
